After completing his study in Specialization Sports (special trainer Athletics) from Germany, Mr.Muhammad Shafiq introduced the game of Handball in Pakistan in 1984 at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, which is the hub of Handball in Pakistan. During 20th National Games, Faisalabad,1984 an exhibition match between National Athletics & Fitness Club and University of Agriculture, Faisalabad was played at Iqbal Stadium ,Faisalabad. Since then, the game of Handball has been gradually developing and gaining popularity.
The Pakistan Handball Federation was formed in April,1985. Mr. Ahsan Alam (Late) and Mr. Muhammad Shafiq were elected as President and Secretary General of the Federation respectively. Prof.Anwar Ch,Syed Shahid Ali,Sardar Khair Muhammad, Prof Abdul Sattar Khan were elected Vice President, Ch.Jamil Akhtar,Mr.Muhammad Fahim, Associate Secretary and Riaz Ahmad Bajwa as Treasure. At present Mr. Muhammad Shafiq is President and Saqlain Kousar is Secretary General .

First National Handball Championship was held at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in 1985 Eight teams participated in this Championship which won by Railway. At present Wapda is National Games Women and Army is National Games Men Champion whereas Wapda is National Men and Women Champion.

Pakistan men team has won Gold medal in Asian Beach Handball Championship, Bandar Abbas,2007 and Asian Beach Games,Bali,Indonesia,2008. Pakistan team has participated in World Games,Chines Tei Pai,2009 and got 6^th place.

Pakistan men team has won gold medal during South Asian Games,Dhaka,2010 and South Asian Games.Phokhara,Nepal,2019 and Women team has won bronze during South Asian Games, Guwhati,India,2016.International Handball Federation(IHF) awarded Cup of honor during IHF Congress held at Madrid,Spain in 2007 to Pakistan Handball Federation in recognition its contribution at International level.

The Pakistan Handball Federation in collaboration with University of Agriculture, Faisalabad(UAF) established National Handball Academy at Handball Stadium, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad whereas Higher Education Commission in collaboration with UAF is also establishing Handball Academy and High performance & Resource Centers at University of Agriculture,Faisalabad under the project of Prime Minister Youth Program.
